Raiders, OT Gaither Agree to Contract

NAPA, Calif. (AP) – The Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms on a contract with free agent offensive lineman Jared Gaither.

The team announced the deal Friday just after the start of the free agency period.

Gaither missed last season with a back injury for Baltimore. But he gives the Raiders a proven veteran at a position of need in offensive tackle.

The Raiders also announced deals with linebacker Jarvis Moss and
long snapper Jon Condo.

Raiders’ Biekert Promoted to LB Coach

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) – The Oakland Raiders have promoted Greg
Biekert from defensive assistant to linebackers coach.

The team announced the move Tuesday.

Biekert joined the coaching staff last year as a defensive assistant. He played linebacker for 11 years in the NFL, including nine with the Raiders.

His most memorable moment came when he recovered the fumble by
Tom Brady that was eventually overturned by replay in the “Tuck Game” against the New England Patriots in the 2001 playoffs.

Coach Hue Jackson says Biekert’s vision as a coach is in line with his own. Jackson still must fill the role of defensive coordinator. Chuck Bresnahan was recently hired as a defensive coach and could be a candidate for that role.

Raiders hire longtime assistant Wylie as line coach

ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Oakland Raiders have hired longtime assistant Bob Wylie as their new offensive line coach.

The team announced the move Monday, with head coach Hue Jackson calling Wylie a “spectacular teacher, motivator and drill sergeant.”

Wylie spent last season sharing offensive line coaching duties for the Denver Broncos. He has also been a line coach with Arizona, Tampa Bay and Chicago, while coaching tight ends for Cincinnati and the New York Jets. Wylie has coached seven offensive linemen who earned Pro Bowl berths.

Wylie is well versed in the power-blocking scheme, which the Raiders will be switching to after using more zone blocking under former head coach Tom Cable.

Oakland has already hired former Pro Bowl guard Steve Wisniewski as its assistant line coach.
