By Steve Corkran Raiders offensive tackle Mario Henderson was arrested Thursday morning in Florida and charged with carrying a concealed firearm, according to several reports. Henderson, 26, was pulled over by police in Fort Myers for playing music too loud. In response to a question by the arresting officer, Henderson said he had a gun in his vehicle. The gun was discovered between the driver’s seat and the center console, according to the arrest report. Henderson does not have a concealed firearms permit. Henderson is the second Raiders player to be arrested this offseason. Backup running back Michael Bush was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol earlier this year. Henderson started seven games at left offensive tackle last season, but he lost his job to rookie Jared Veldheer. He is a free agent after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Raiders. Henderson could not be reached for comment.

| Raiders, Pro Bowl DL Seymour agree to contract extension | |
Pro Bowl defensive lineman Richard Seymour agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday, according to league sources. Seymour played the 2010 season under the franchise tag and was set to be a coveted defensive lineman in free agency. He responded with 48 tackles and 5.5 sacks (tied for second most in his career) in 13 games. He was selected to his sixth Pro Bowl in 10 NFL seasons. Oakland traded its 2011 first-round pick to the New England Patriots to acquire Seymour, who has 48.5 career sacks, prior to last season. Seymour has the versatility to play inside or on the edge, and he helped make the Raiders’ defensive line much more effective last season as the team went 8-8 for its first non-losing season since 2002. The Raiders are not expected to use the franchise tag this offseason, but they do face key potential free-agent departures from cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, guard Robert Gallery, tight end Zach Miller and corner Stanford Routt and will try to retain as much of their nucleus as possible. That’s all the news for today. Posted in 1, Oakland Raiders, raiders-news, Richard Seymour, Robert Gallery, Zach Miller | Comments Off

| Raiders add experience with new OC | |
As expected, the Oakland Raiders have added Baltimore assistant Al Saunders to their coaching staff.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saunders will be Hue Jackson’s offensive coordinator. Jackson, who had a major impact on Oakland’s offense in 2010, said this week he will call the plays in Oakland, but expect Saunders, who will be 64 next month, to have a big role on the staff. Oakland still needs to hire a defensive coordinator. Saunders was San Diego’s head coach from 1986-88. Saunders, who has also been an offensive coordinator in Kansas City and St. Louis, worked with Oakland quarterback Jason Campbell in 2006-07 in Washington as assistant head coach. That experience should help Campbell progress this offseason. Saunders has interviewed for the head-coaching job in Oakland in the past. So, yes, if Al Davis ever gets the hankering to fire Hue Jackson — who is Oakland’s sixth head coach since 2002 — Saunders has potential. Jackson, of course, was Oakland’s offensive coordinator when he replaced Tom Cable who was the Raiders’ offensive line coach when he replaced Lane Kiffin. UPDATE: It is being talked about that Oakland could pursue a defensive coordinator to run the 3-4 defense. I think that would be a good idea. Oakland has several players who are naturals for the 3-4. It could be a nice fit for this team. Running low on time today, i’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more news. |
