We’re just a few days away before the Denver Broncos face the Oakland Raiders in O.co Coliseum on November 6, 2011. Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Al Saunders is known for the extensive verbiage and complexity contained in his playbooks — when he was with the Washington Redskins, word got out about 700-page playbooks,” and while any playbook has a lot of different iterations of the same basic concept, it’s also true that no matter how you slice it, Saunders likes to have a lot of concepts on the field. That’s why it was a bit surprising that Raiders head coach Hue Jackson had Carson Palmer(notes) going in to replace quarterback Kyle Boller(notes) in the Raiders’ 28-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs just days after he had been traded from the Cincinnati Bengals the previous Tuesday. The move was made to shore up the team’s quarterback position after Jason Campbell(notes) broke his collarbone

Palmer had just three practices with the Raiders before making his debut in Sunday’s 28-0 loss to Kansas City. So the task this week will be to learn the offense, build a rapport on and off the field with his receivers and get back into football shape after more than nine months away from the game. “This bye week may be the most valuable to me of anybody in the league, other than a guy who is really hurt or nursing a serious injury,” Palmer said

Darren McFadden was on crutches, Rolando McClain was in a protective boot and there was plenty of mental anguish to go around as the Raiders spent the first day of their bye week Monday reviewing their face-plant against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Just a few days before the Oakland Raiders were headed to Houston to face the Texans, owner Al Davis was still around, and the Silver and Black had a record of 2-2. Not bad, but not great either. When I predicted what the future might hold over their next three games, I had surmised that they would finish with a 4-3 record

A little of this and a lot of that, following Week 7 in the NFL … – Nothing can demoralize an NFL quarterback and his offense quite like giving up a pick six. Unless, of course, your quarterback gives up six picks instead

In the Raiders’ brave Hue World, their coach isn’t just the undisputed boss, he is also lead publicist and attention-getter-in-chief. Which is good — when the Raiders, bound by Hue Jackson’s inspiration, come together through grief and drama
